Amman Public Engagement Project – Part of Green City Action Plan “GCAP”

2019 – 2021

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with support from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance and AECOM, collaborated with the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) to develop a Green City Action Plan (GCAP) for the City to tackle growing challenges (such as solid waste management, air quality, congestion, water supply and treatment, green space and biodiversity).

To inform the GCAP, in 2019, GAM requested additional support from EBRD to develop a comprehensive public consultation plan in order to support GAM develop a robust GCAP which takes into consideration the citizens opinion about priority actions. Recent events in Amman meant that GAM’s public perception has been adversely affected. As such the objective of the ‘Public Engagement’ assignment is twofold:

  1. To gather and integrate public opinion into the development of the GCAP; and
  2. Communicate GAM’s commitment to improving the environment.

Leaders of Tomorrow took this part and designed an interactive public engagement campaign “Amman in Green” with many activities that includede a social media campaign, creative competitions, public discussions with municipality members, and others.

Social Innovation Challenge: Educational Solutions Hackathon

2020 – 2021

The first of it’s kind virtual multi-phase hackathon that aims at engaging youth in Jordan to come up with creative educational solutions that aim at supporting the educational system in Jordan.

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing measures at the time, the entire hackathon was designed and executed to take place online with over 300 participants joining in the early stages.

The hackathon was divided into different themes: Creative Thinking, Mental and Physical Well-being, Teachers aid, and Vulnurable Students Support. The final stage of the hackathon involved customized mentorship sessions that aimed at supporting the winning solutions and helping them to exceute their innovative ideas.

Local Voices – Global Exchange

DW Akademie
2021 – 2022

As part of the initiative: Transparency and Media Freedom – Crisis resilience in the global pandemic, “Local Voices – Global Exchange” is a project by DW Akademie, the Deutsche Welle’s center for international media development, journalism training and knowledge transfer. The project was implemented by the organizations “Local Press” (Serbia), “Media Matters for Democracy” (Pakistan) and “Leaders of Tomorrow” (Jordan) and funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Throughout this project, Local and citizen media companies from different regions (Jordan, Pakistan, and Serbia) collaborated with each other across international borders on learning and sharing innovative programs and economic approaches that strengthen their resilience against COVID-19 and future crises.

As part of the project’s execution process, the selected media from each country went through a mentorship process where they received guidance and mentorship on an area of development that they lacked.

The Coffee Talks Series & The Establishment of the EU Jeel Connect Network in Jordan

EU NEIGHBOURS SOUTH & The European Union in Jordan
2022 – 2023

A series of local coffee talks in different cities across Jordan to engage active Jordanian youth in conversations with EU officials about different topics such as: the environment and climate change, vocational training, research, innovation, and private sector development.

The aim was to eventually create a network of active youth who will continue to engage with relevant activities of the EU and represent their communities through available projects and activities that the delegation offers.

Youth and Diversity: “SCENE” Audiovisual Contest for IDMAJ Project

The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation & NOVACT
2023 – 2024

This project revolved around desiging and executing an audiovisual contest to promote youth active role as peace – building agents, especially, women and YwD, in addition to fostering, amongst youth, active citizenship and social inclusion.

The contest targeted youth from three different cities in Jordan and encouraged them to capture “”Scenes”” that reflects diversity in their eyes. Mobile phones were the official tools to be used to ensure inclusivity and ability of all community members to participate, not just professional photographers.

By the end of the project, a small photo exhibition was organized to invite a selected group of applicants to display their work and tell the story of their inclusive captures.
